- Who is Yumeji? -

YUMEJI (Yumeji Takehisa) is a painter known for modern Japanese art and illustration. He was active from the Meiji era to the early Showa era, specialising in Bijinga (picture of beautiful women).

Renowned for his distinctive use of color and lines, he fused traditional Japanese aesthetics with Western influences, gaining popularity. His works feature beautiful women and everyday scenes, emphasising details like hairstyles, clothing and expressions.

Moreover, he excited in commercial art and publishing, designing a wide range of items from magazine covers and advertisements to stationery, fans, collars and Yukata. His diverse portfolio extended beyond painting, pioneering roles akin to modern graphic designers and art directors.
