- What is Kinmokusei? -
Known as Kinmokusei in Japanese, is a tree that grows to about 2-3 meters tall and produces numerous small orange flowers. It is native to China and is said to have been introduced to Japan during the Edo period (1603-1868). Often used as an ornamental tree in gardens and parks, its fragrance is also utilised in perfumes and aroma products. In Japan, it blooms in autumn (September to October), releasing a strong, sweet scent. This fragrance is memorable to many people, and the nostalgic feeling it evokes during the transition from autumn to winter leads many to associate the scent of Kinmokusei with the arrival of autumn.
